So your baby has turned three. He has developed a unique personality by now. There are hardly any dull moments with a three year old but have you potty trained your little one? At three, kids are pretty much ready to get some potty training. With pre-school right ahead of them, you have no time to waste. We all know that diapers cost too much. It’s now time to save some money by not using them. Well, it may not be easy to convince your little one to sit on the potty seat. We have gathered some tips to help you potty train your 3 year old.
Here are some of the challenges while you potty train and their solutions:
1. He will only use his potty seat
You are making your efforts to potty train your child and have been a little successful. But then you suddenly visit your friend’s house without diapers and your baby doesn’t want to use their bathroom. He wants his potty seat. It is not healthy for him to hold it till he gets home. It is not his fault either. He is just three and requires some kind of familiarity to feel comfortable. What you can do is take the potty seat with you no matter where you go. If your little one is still hesitant, you can try to make the bathroom visits a little adventurous. It may be just a bathroom for you but for a three year old, every place is a place to explore.
2. Almost there but something happened
You were almost successful in potty training but something happened. Your baby just doesn’t want to sit on the potty seat again. Remember little children can feel small things too much. Little things can make them feel that their life is moving out of control. Children want their routine. If anything happens out of the routine, it can disturb your potty training. It is high time that you go back to your old routine and fix things. Don’t go for anything new. Go for the method that worked before.
3. Poop is just for the diaper
It can be so frustrating when your baby knows how to use the bathroom but simply doesn’t poop in it. There can be various reasons for your little one wanting to only poop in the diaper. Diaper has been a part of his life since the time he opened his eyes in this world. It might not be easy for him to just give up on it. Don’t just rush with your baby. Move on gradually. If he just wants to poop in the diaper, let him do that in the bathroom. As soon as he comfortable with pooping in the diaper in the bathroom, make him sit on the potty seat with the diaper on. Let him poop like he does. As soon as you think, he is ready for the next step, just take off the diaper.
4. When rewards don’t work
You must have probably tried giving your baby all kinds of rewards your baby would love to have from chocolates to his favorite toys. But nothing seems to work. He is just not ready to get rid of the diaper. Twos and threes can be rigid and stubborn. The word they love the most right now is ‘no’. Rewards simply don’t work for such strong willed little angels. Why don’t you go for the reverse psychology and simply tell him that you don’t want your baby to use the potty seat. This might help to get rid of the rigidity he might be showing you and mellow down a little to use the potty seat.
