5 Useful Tips to Care for Baby Skin

We all adore baby skin and simply wish we have them again. Baby skin is silky, smooth, soft and free of all marks. To take care of baby’s skin, remember less is best. The lesser you touch it or the lesser you wipe it, the better. We all love stroking our hands on the baby’s head and face. The special skin of your special baby requires care to shield it from skin diseases and rashes. Here is how you can give his skin all the care it needs:

  1. Baby Bath

Babies just require baths two to three times in a week. Parents like to bathe their child every day. Babies require lukewarm water to be cleaned up. Fill the bath tub with two to three inches of water. Make sure you use gentle soap and shampoos that do not result in allergic reaction.

To keep your baby from feeling cold, keep pouring in water over his delicate shoulders. Take a washcloth and soak it in soap water. Then rub it gently on the baby’s scalp. Use cotton ball to clean the face.

Make sure you switch off the fans or air conditioner where you plan to dry up your baby. As soon the baby is all dry, use baby lotion to lock up moisture and prevent dry skin.

  1. Diaper issues

Diapers are meant to keep your babies clean and fresh. However, there are diapers that can even irritate the sensitive skin of your baby and cause infections or rashes. It is only best to change the diaper as soon as your baby has dirtied it. In case you notice the diaper region of your baby really irritated, you should try a different brand. Diapers that are too tight can also irritate your baby’s skin

Most of the babies have a tendency of developing rashes but you can prevent it. Make sure you don’t leave wet diapers on for long as they can cause infections and rashes.. As soon as the diaper is used, change it and use wipes to clean the area. Then gently rub some powder to keep it clean and dry. Wait for a little moment and allow the area to be air dried as locked up moisture can again irritate the baby’s delicate skin.

Make sure you give your baby some diaper free time every single day because diapers prevent air from circulating.

  1. Moisturize

No need to panic if you notice your baby’s silky smooth skin has turned dry. Remember it came from the liquid environment in the womb and has suddenly hit the air. It is naturally going to be dry. Using a natural moisturizer is the best thing you can do to keep his skin soft, supple and hydrated. Pure coconut oil is indeed the best choice.

Secondly, don’t give your baby frequent baths as it may take away all the important nutrients from the skin and leave it dry. In the first month, just sponge your baby gently with plain water twice or thrice a week. This way, your baby will be clean and his skin will retain the much needed moisture.

You can use skin care products that are particularly meant for babies. If you notice any skin allergies, just stop using the baby lotion, shampoo or gel right away. Keep baby lotions with you to keep the baby’s skin moisturized and use ointments with thicker consistency to keep the baby’s skin soft. When changing diaper, you don’t have to use powders. Allowing it to air dry is the best option.

  1. Weather alert

No, don’t apply sunscreen to your little angel who is less than 6 months old.  You can apply sunscreen after they turn 6 months old. Use a minimum of SPF 30 on the skin exposed to the sun. Look out for the phrase ‘broad spectrum’ on the label of the sunscreen. It will help block UVB and UVA rays.

It is best to slather you little one with sunscreen half an hour before you step outside. Babies don’t have sweat glands that are fully developed which is why they are prone to heat rash. Make sure you make them wear an outfit that is loose and put on a hat.

When it is winter, you baby’s skin can become too dry. In order to keep the air moist, keep a cool mist humidifier. Make sure you clean the humidifier on a regular basis. Provide your little one with lots of water to remain hydrated in the dry season.

Make him wear full sleeves and covered dress to protect him from cold or heat.

  1. Choose skin products carefully

When choosing skin care products for your baby, opt for ones that are fragrance free. Go for tear free lotions, bath gels, and shampoos. Be careful with every product you use on your baby. If you notice any allergy, simply stop using the product.

Be very careful when buying talcum powder. Go for powders that are meant for babies only and keep away from powders that contain chemicals, grains and fragrances particularly for the diaper region. It is best if you don’t apply powder in the diaper area and let it air dry to prevent further infections.

Don’t go for deodorant, antibacterial and perfumed soaps. They are too harsh for your baby’s skin. You can use those on your toddler but for your baby, baby soap is the best.

Use a baby laundry detergent that doesn’t irritate his skin. Choose mild baby detergents or the ones that are free of dyes, fragrances and allergens.
