Having a cranky and fussy baby or toddler is the worst thing that can ever happen. Every baby has his own temperament. Babies can be fussy by nature but then parents can learn to quickly figure out the needs of the baby before he gets all upset. Some babies are simply more prone to crankiness by birth. If you get to know each other better, the easier it becomes to make him feel content, secure and happy.
Let’s unveil some of the secrets to keeping your baby happy and eventually people around him:
1. Maintain physical contact
The emphasis on physical contact is because physical contact harbors emotional relationship between you and your baby. You probably have seen people carrying their babies in a front carrier. Why are babies so relaxed in it? They work on one simple formula- human touch.
Yes, people are going to tell you that you are spoiling your child by holding him too much and he is going to become demanding. Maintaining physical contact does not mean you keep holding your baby 24/7. Other ways to foster human contact can be when you give your little one a body massage or when you two bathe together.
2. Look at the world through your baby’s eye
Being parents, you have to make many on the spot decisions. There will come many times when you feel tempted to yell or slap your child? You can avoid that with one simple technique. Next time your baby throws a temper tantrum at you, instead of getting angry and irked try to look at the world through your angel’s eyes.
Step into your baby’s shoes and question yourself how you would want your parents to respond to you. You will be surprised how you will be able to handle even really sensitive situations so well.
3. Let the baby amuse himself
You must have noticed babies don’t want your attention at all times. Even a funky print on your bed sheet may keep them busy for some time. Babies love watching the fan move in circles. You can make him sit close to the window so he can look at the view outside and enjoy it. There are tons of other things that amuse your baby.
You just need to find out what amuses your baby. You can figure that out by experimenting what makes him feel happy. It could even be little flowers on your scarf. You can leave him busy amusing himself while you set the lunch table or any other thing.
4. Feel free to experiment
Truth be told. It is YOU who is the mother. It is not your mom, your friends or even the doctor. YOU will have to figure out a lot of things on your own. Every child is different. Some are able to adapt to changes easily while other require a lot of patience from you side to fit into the routine you want. It is better to try to mold your baby as soon as possible so that you both fall in the same pattern sooner.
For that you need to be open to experimenting. For instance, for some kids breast feeding doesn’t work and then you need to try formula milk. Again, a particular brand of formula milk might not suit your little one’s stomach. You might have to try out other brands to find out which one works for your kid.
5. Maintain your cool
Maintaining your cool is the most difficult thing for parents. There are many times when parents become extremely irked and frustrated because of the behavior or their baby. Babies are not as oblivious to their surrounding as they seem. They are able to pick up on the tension that surrounds them and they react in return.
If you continue to keep that frustrated attitude it can develop into a continuous pattern for you and your baby. You need to break that cycle if you have made it. Sometimes it is not easy to figure out why your baby wants to be held or why he is crying. It could just a bit of a biscuit his sibling is eating or something else. Once you figure out what he needs, it becomes easy. You have to learn to recognize the needs of your child.
6. Set a routine
Babies completely depend on you to set a routine for them. Knowing what is coming next provides them with a sense of security. Once you set your baby’s routine, things are going to get easier for you too. There are few basics that you need to keep a track of: when the baby last ate, how many continuous hours does he sleep, and how long has he been awake.
That way you will know what your baby needs before he even demands for it. There are many babies who can’t stay up for more than 4 hours. If he gets all grumpy, then he probably wants you to make him sleep.
7. Connect with your baby
You can foster a deep connection with your baby in different ways. Most of the mothers are generally happy to be moms. As soon as you give birth to your little one, make sure you try to spend more and more time with your baby even in the hospital. Never take breast feeding as a burden. It will not only give your baby tons of health benefits but also form a priceless bond between you and your angel.
Secondly, hold him close yourself whenever you can as it is another way to communicate with the baby. So what if he can’t speak actual words? He knows how to cry and that is his language to communicate with you.
